And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. Hebrews 10:19-20
The context of this chapter in Hebrews makes it very clear that this invitation into the very presence of God in highest heaven is a "here and now" reality for Jesus people. There is no sense of remoteness implied regarding where God dwells and where we can live and abide.
So what if we have limited the application of these passages from the Gospel of John below (and all of the amazing words and promises of Jesus from John 14-17) to a future age, when there are actually wonderful applications for our present day communion potential with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit? What kind of possibilities might open up to us regarding our lives here and now?
Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come [i.e. after the resurrection and by the gift of the Spirit] and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. And you know the way to where I am going. John 14:1-4
I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began! John 17:22-24
It is in this age, not in the age to come that the world needs this quality of witness in and through the lives of God's people!
